Robert Kryzkij was attempting to elude members of the Orange Police Department on Nov. 9 last year, when he crossed over the double yellow line of Meloy Road near the intersection of Carlson Road in West Haven.
While driving eastbound in the westbound lanes, Kryzkij sideswiped another vehicle, though Kryzkij was not deterred, and continued traveling east.
Police had conducted the traffic stop after Kryzkij allegedly was involved in a previous crash and was attempting to flee.
While continuing to drive the wrong way, Kryzkij struck 54-year-old Philip Hunt head-on, sending them both to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Hunt was pronounced dead shortly before midnight following the crash.
An extensive investigation into the crash involving the West Haven Police Department, Milford State’s Attorney’s Office and Connecticut State Police led them to Kryzkij, who was arrested at approximately 10 a.m. on Monday.
Kryzkij was charged with charges that include:
- Manslaughter;
- Manslaughter with a motor vehicle;
- Reckless endangerment;
- Reckless driving;
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol;
- Increasing speed in an attempt to escape or elude police;
- Evasion of responsibility in operation of a motor vehicle;
- Operation of a motor vehicle without a license;
- Failure to drive in the established lane on a multi-lane highway.
Police said that a $100,000 cash bail or bond was issued. Kryzkij has been processed at Milford Superior Court and is due to be arraigned on Monday.
